Embraer has just unveiled their new design for a revolutionary interior that is a massive upgrade from the cabins reminiscent of a pressurized metal tube and small port holes. Commercial and business jets with eight-figure price tags still offer very little in terms of allowing natural sunlight into the cabin and for most people the idea of flying is scary enough without your aircraft resembling a metal tomb or coffin. Embraer has heed the cries of its customers and has proposed a new interior design concept christened the Kyoto Airship. Embraer has proposed to outfit their new Lineage 1000 business jets with state of the art skylights and huge vertical windows to allow customers a view that is indeed fit for the gods. The Kyoto Airship interior is available for any customer interested in ordering the Lineage 1000 valued at $55 million dollars by Embraer.
There are 30 year old aircrafts currently flying around with skylights such as the Cessna but skylights aren’t exactly a novel idea. This is however the first time ever that skylights have been offered on a jet this large and with a pressurized cabin that cruises at an average of 10,000 meters.
The Embraer executive jet team referenced an ERJ145 regional jet and drew inspiration from the technical aspect to come up with this new concept. According to Vice President of Interior Design, Jay Beever, the Embraer design team imagined a “hypothetical Japanese customer who may want to sit on the floor of the aircraft instead of a traditional seat” and dropped the window sills so that the customer can have a lower center of gravity. The large vertical windows will allow you to be bathed in sunlight and will illuminate your entire cabin however the Embraer design team is very cognizant of the fact that with all the sunlight coming in the cabin could become extremely hot.
For now it is still in the concept phase and being experimented with but Embraer is anxiously awaiting for the brave soul that is willing to buck the trend and become a trendsetter in terms of setting the new standard for a business jet.
