A board stacking connector, sometimes known as a board to board connector or simply PCB connector, is an item that provides a foundation, housing, and terminals for printed circuit boards. Manufacturers in the industry will use board stacking connectors because it enables them to utilize more than one printed circuit board while simultaneously keeping them organized and condensed. By stacking the printed circuit boards on top of one another, you can save space inside of your computer or wherever else you are placing your printed circuit boards
There are many different types of board stacking connectors, with a common one being the two piece standard pitch with pin-to-pin sockets. Two stacks of PCBs is common but you can also utilize three or more. The process of putting PCB boards together in this fashion is known to some in the manufacturing sector as “flexible stacking” and it is used in various fields including telecom, medical, tech, automotive, instrumentation, industrial, etc.
Another reason why board-to-board connectors are referred to as flexible stacking is because of its ability to move the plastic insulator up and down the terminal pin. You can move the printed circuit board around to different heights, some of which include a low profile of 2.29 mm as well as elevations of 5.08 mm, 1.27 mm and 1.00 mm. If you cannot find a board to board connector that offers the heights and customizations that you are looking for, then you may be able to request customization from your trusted provider. Such modifications include the atypical angling or bending of pins, modified footprints, specialized paltings, screen printing of part numbers, headers with ferrites, special cable or wiring, and more.
